Nuvoton Announces Its First Single-Chip, Multi-Message, Digital ChipCorder® at 2008 Taipei Taitronics Autumn

Nuvoton today introduces ISD15100, the first single-chip, multi-message, digital ChipCorder ® series targeted for the automotive, industrial and telecommunications markets. The ISD15100 provide audio grade record/playback, digital compression, integrated analog/digital audio signal paths, built-in, comprehensive memory management including macro scripts, I²S digital audio interface, faster digital recording and higher sampling frequency. These features are especially ideal for designers looking for an easy, cost effective and efficient way of supporting multi-language applications.

More and more content continues to migrate to the digital domain due to ease of use, speed of processing and the ability to quickly and easily share this type of data. Nuvoton recognized the need for a solution to capture the proliferation of digital data and released its ISD15100 series offering faster programming, address-free recording and simple index based commands for playback, longer duration and audio grade record/playback. Using this IC, designers are able to create a single platform for their applications. Customizations, personalization and multi-language support can then be easily achieved by swapping sound files "on the fly", with minimal time and efforts spent changing the underlying codes and programming.

The ISD15100 is a great extension of the ChipCorder family because it offers the same quality that our customers have come to expect from the existing ChipCorder products while providing enhancements made possible by the digital domain.

● User-selectable durations from 2 to 32 minutes based on 8kHz/4bit ADPCM
● Digital audio data with sample rate up to 48kHz via I²S or SPI interface
● Fast digital recording with data rate up to 1Mbits/second

The ISD15100 is available in a 48-pin LQFP lead-free package, starting at $3 in volume quantities. Evaluation systems are also available, each providing an ease-of-use hardware board and a user-friendly software utility, Voice Prompt Editor (VPE) that allows the developers the ability to edit voice prompts, configure the ISD15100 and download the final voice prompts to the ISD15100 for emulations.
