TI’s ZigBee Wireless Networking Solution
ZigBee is a standards-based technology for remote monitoring, control and sensor network applications. The ZigBee standard was created to address the need for a cost-effective, standards-based wireless networking solution that supports low data-rates, low-power consumption, security, and reliability. Core markets are consumer electronics, energy management and efficiency, health care, home automation, telecommunication services, building automation and industrial automation.

TI’s ZigBee Solutions
A longstanding member of the ZigBee alliance and with golden unit recognized ZigBee compliant platforms, TI is a leading supplier of ZigBee solutions. TI provides complete hardware and software ZigBee-compliant platforms. Unlike other hardware suppliers that outsource their ZigBee stack development, TI has a dedicated internal software engineering team that is working on the latest revisions of the ZigBee stack and application profile testing.
● Complete hardware and software ZigBee-compliant platforms certified by a ZigBee
Alliance approved test house.
● A free IEEE 802.15.4 MAC software and golden unit status Z-Stack protocol stack.
● High-performance radio featuring excellent coexistence with WLAN, Bluetooth®
and other 2.4 GHz solutions.
● Application support.
● Development kits and tools.
TI’s Three Paths to ZigBee
● The ZigBee second generation CC2530 SOC (system-on-chip) is a ZigBee "golden unit
suite" that is targeted for low power applications and small form factor designs.
● The CC2530ZNP ( ZigBee network processor) can be used for designs where the
CC2530ZNP, containing the ZigBee Pro stack, communicate to the system's main
processor through the SPI interface. This partitioning option allows the designer to keep
the ZigBee application profile and any other applications on the main processor.
● The second generation CC2520 802.15.4 transceiver can be used with the MSP430
MCU's and Stellaris suite of ARM Cortex M3 technology. It is recommended for designers
who want additional flash and RAM.

▇ CC2530 SoC for IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee and RF4CE
The CC2530 is a true system-on-chip (SoC) solution for IEEE 802.15.4, ZigBee and RF4CE applications. It enables robust network nodes to be built with very low total bill-of-material costs. The CC2530 combines the excellent performance of a leading RF transceiver with an industry-standard enhanced 8051 MCU, in-system programmable flash memory, 8-KB RAM, and many other powerful features. The CC2530 comes in four different flash versions: CC2530F32/64/128/256, with 32/64/128/256 KB of flash memory, respectively.
The CC2530 has various operating modes, making it highly suited for systems where ultralow power consumption is required. Short transition times between operating modes further ensure low energy consumption. Combined with the industry-leading and golden-unit-status ZigBee protocol stack ( Z-Stack) from Texas Instruments, the CC2530F256 provides a robust and complete ZigBee solution. Combined with the golden-unit-status RemoTI stack from Texas Instruments, the CC2530F64 and higher provide a robust and complete ZigBee RF4CE remote-control solution.
▇ CC2530ZNP ZigBee co-processor with Embedded Stack and
and UART/SPI/USB Interface
The new 2.4GHz ZigBee network processor CC2530ZNP with integrated ZigBee PRO software stack, provides a simple, off-the-shelf ZigBee solution without requiring designers to learn the complexities of a full ZigBee stack. The CC2530ZNP also allows customers the flexibility to use their existing host processor to run application code while the CC2530ZNP supports the networking component of the system. Target applications include home and building automation, industrial monitoring and control, sensor networks and tele-health.
CC2530ZNP Features and Benefits:
● Integrated ZigBee processor (8051 core) reduces development time by 25 percent.
● Embedded ZigBee PRO stack delivers standardized, robust mesh network and reduces
firmware development by 50 percent.
● Compact radio reference design makes it ideal for small form factor end equipment
and sensors.
● Low current consumption optimized for sleeping end nodes and battery-operated devices.
● Supports TI's Z-Stack software and SimpleAPI, which has only 10 calls to learn.
● Communicates to host processor via an SPI or UART command interface.
● Best-in-class selectivity and good coexistence with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices.
● Compatible devices from TI include the CC2590 and CC2591 2.4-GHz analog front
ends (range extenders), MSP430 ultra-low-power microcontrollers and Stellaris ARM
processors.
▇ CC2520 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee RF Transceiver
The CC2520 is TI's second generation ZigBee / IEEE 802.15.4 RF transceiver for the 2.4 GHz unlicensed ISM band. This chip enables industrial grade applications by offering state-of-the-art selectivity/co-existence, excellent link budget, operation up to 125°C and low voltage operation. In addition, the CC2520 provides extensive hardware support for frame handling, data buffering, burst transmissions, data encryption, data authentication, clear channel assessment, link quality indication and frame timing information. These features reduce the load on the host controller. In a typical system, the CC2520 will be used together with a microcontroller and a few additional passive components.
▇ Z-Stack - TI’s industry-leading ZigBee Protocol Stack
Z-Stack is TI's ZigBee compliant protocol stack for a growing portfolio of IEEE 802.15.4 products and platforms. Z-Stack is compliant with the ZigBee 2007 (ZigBee and ZigBee PRO) specification, supporting both ZigBee and ZigBee PRO feature sets on the CC2530 System-on-Chip, MSP430+CC2520, and Stellaris LM3S9B96+CC2520. Z-Stack supports the Smart Energy and Home Automation profiles.
● A fully compliant ZigBee PRO feature set on the CC2530 and MSP+CC2520 platforms.
● A fully compliant ZigBee feature set on the CC2530 family of SoCs and an extensive family
of MSP430 microcontrollers coupled with the latest best in class CC2520 transceiver.
● A range of Sample Applications including support for the ZigBee Smart Energy and
ZigBee Home Automation Profiles.
● Over the Air Download support.
● Incorporated support for the CC2591, the latest RF Front end which supports 22dBm
transmit power and improved receive sensitivity.
